You can cut the animals in half with scissors and just glue magnets in their backs and spray paint them gold. I found this tutorial for DIY Party Animal Magnets and I knew so many people in my life needed these. I have been combing Pinterest to find any DIY projects where I could use them. I have a new found love for the awesome plastic animals available at Michael’s craft store. In the end, I’m kinda glad it worked out that way. Gold thumbtacks! And so that’s the story of how I ended up using gold thumbtacks. Then I stopped by Kroger on the way home to grab dinner and boom…. So, I temporarily gave up and was going to just come home and try to order some online. Target actually sells silver thumbtacks but they were sold out of them. I tried Walgreens, Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, Office Depot, and The Dollar Tree, and all I could find were colorful thumbtacks or those jumbo acrylic pushpins. ![]() And I tried so hard, but it wasn’t meant to be. I originally wanted to use silver thumbtacks for this project. Let’s talk about thumbtacks for a minute. I decided a clipboard would help keep my to-do list in check, and if the clipboard was cute and colorful I might be more inclined to work on that list. Crafting and organizing all at once? Sign me up! I have to admit that my paper clutter has gotten out of control lately… to-do lists, post-its, receipts, mail. I’ve got a DIY craft to share, and it may even help you get organized. Quilted curls in white setting triangles, piano keys in red border, double loop in white border, “l” loops in yellow border (with the name “hazel” in cursive in one corner), and open spirals in blue border.Advertisement Easy Dollar Store Crafts 1. Quilted running spirals in yellow sashing with free motion X through red cornerstones. Quilted a large spiral in the pinwheel blocks with King Tut 40wt variegated thread (Cleopatra). Quilting Notes/TechniquesĬenter ditch quilted with Rasant cotton wrapped poly thread. Needed to hammer the cuff joint to make it more flexible to sew through. Needed to take a deeper second seem to avoid the first coming through. Used “The Quilter” pattern, but modified to use a French seam on the inside. Made matching pillowcase with left over fabric. Next time need to measure out from centre. Tried to follow their method for trimming the quilt, but was not very successful. Used formula for side triangles from Quilter’s Academy Vol 2. Needed to pay more attention to making sure seams would match up when sewing them into four hour glass units. Had some issues with stretching on the bias. Used Red Pepper Quilts hour glass block tutorial. Adding in extra borders to help increase size. Using self-modified version of “Carnival Dance” pattern to use 5″ charm packs. I was really impressed by how bright the fabric is, even after washing. I got it at Spotlight (Australia’s version of Joann’s). Made with “The Quilter” magazine pillow case pattern, modified to be slightly smaller and with a French seam. Pillow cases for my cousin’s son to go with his (to be made) solar system quilt. ![]()
